I believe that children speak the same language - that no matter how culturally diverse a classroom is, no matter how different their accents or the languages that they speak are, they still understand each other. And it is for that reason that I strongly believe in the teaching philosophy and approach that I advocate because it speaks the language of children. It speaks and reaches out to children through play and music and art. A child that doesn't speak any word of english will hum a song with you or sing incoherent syllables that sound like the ones you're singing. A child that's much too shy to talk to you or other kids may pick up a brush and paint the desires of her heart. And children who aren't able to articulate their thoughts well yet can play, have fun, solve problems and work out conflicts together! It's amazing! That's the language I choose to speak to these children in and, hopefully, it's the language that will instill in them a love for learning, exploration, interaction and a burning thirst for life!
Love, Oli :)
