I have an amazing part time job. Aside from working in a preschool, I also perform in children's parties for Clowning Around. I have found myself dressed up as Gabriela Montez, singing and dancing along to High school Musical songs, doing the Hoedown Throwdown as one of Hannah Montana's pals, and - my favorite! - putting on a Princess Jasmine costume and singing Disney princess songs to the kiddos. I love being part of the Disney gigs best of all! It's a kind of fulfillment of my long time dream of becoming one of the famed Disney Princesses! I actually wanted (still want!) to work as one of those actors that dress up in costumes and do meet and greets and perform in the shows in Disneyland! I love putting on the make up and costume and really going all out and speaking and acting like a princess! It's so much fun! The most amazing part is how the kids really believe that you ARE a princess! During one party (I was Princess Jasmine), kids would come up to me and ask me stuff like "Where's Aladdin?" and "Did you really ride a magic carpet?" (FYI: This also happens in other parties. For example, in one party where I was dressed up as Gabriela, this adorable 7 year old girl actually asked my friend Reb, who was playing Troy, if we really did kiss in the movie! Haha!)
The Princesses - Jasmine (me), Belle, Ariel, Snow White, Cinderella
Doing these gigs really made me miss the music from those classic Disney Princess movies! So, in honor of the Disney Princess franchise, which has sadly come to an end with the wonderful Tangled, I have decided to start a project! I am going to record myself singing Disney Princess songs, which I might post in my tumblr account, Sunset Diaries, if they're at least decent enough to be posted! I'm actually quite excited about this project! Just listening to these songs and then singing along to them really bring me back to my childhood. I remember trying to sound like a Disney princess - trying to get the tone and the diction right (Lea Salonga was my inspiration)! Now that I'm older, singing Disney songs makes me so nostalgic that it's actually like eating comfort food. They're just so beautiful and timeless. Hearing them and singing along to them just make me so happy!
And so... I shall waste no time! I'm going off to download instrumentals off of youtube!
Love, Oli :)
